Anchor Bay Entertainment announced today the acquisition of the supernatural thriller Altitude through its Anchor Bay Films label. The agreement covers distribution in the U.S. and U.K. as well as Australia and New Zealand. Directed by award-winning graphic novelist Kaare Andrews, the film is written by Paul A. Birkett (The Keeper).

Altitude follows a group of teens on a weekend getaway aboard a small plane that suddenly turns deadly for the rookie pilot, Jessica Lowndes (“90210”), and four young friends: Julianna Guill (Friday the 13th, “90210”), Ryan Donowho (Bandslam, “The O.C.”), Landon Liboiron (“Degrassi: The Next Generation”), and Jake Weary (“As the World Turns”). Minutes after the group takes off, an unexplained malfunction sends the aircraft climbing out of control into the heart of a mysterious storm. Unable to get their bearings or contact the ground, the survivors gradually realize they are locked in combat with a terrifying supernatural force.

“Anchor Bay has an outstanding reputation for releasing films that provide audiences with the thrills and chills they crave, and Altitude is a work that delivers both in a very fresh, new way,” states Kevin Kasha, senior vice president, acquisitions, Anchor Bay Films. “Altitude is edgy, mysterious and has a very hip sensibility. The deal for Altitude was negotiated by Kevin Kasha, James Shapiro and Richard Turner for Anchor Bay Films: Gary Hamilton, and Mike Gabrawy of Arclight Films.

Anchor Bay has locked down North American, Australian, and U.K. distribution rights to director Kaare Andrews’ in-flight frightener Altitude. The film stars “90210″ babe Jessica Lowndes and Julianna Guill, endearingly known to horror fans as the topless chick from the Friday the 13th reboot.

Says Anchor Bay president Bill Clark:

Altitude is a film that seems destined to fly high with anyone who likes a good scare. Just like The Blair Witch Project or Paranormal Activity, this is a new type of high concept thriller which is loaded with attitude and style.

Lowndes horror creds include The Haunting of Molly Hartley, Autopsy, and the Masters of Horror episode “Dance of the Dead.”

In addition to Friday the 13th, Guill has headlined MTV’s My Super Psycho Sweet 16 and stars opposite Ashley Greene and Tom Felton in director Todd Lincoln’s upcoming ghost story Apparition.
