Another article about Jessica, her character Adrianna in 90210 and her current relationship. Read below! (Thanks Natalia!)

We admit it: when reports first surfaced that said Adrianna would get involved in a same-sex relationship this spring on 90210, we were skeptical.

After all, when most shows go this route, it’s a clear, desperate plea for ratings and attention (yes, we’re looking at you, Heroes).

But 90210 has proven us wrong. The connection between Gia and Adrianna has played out slowly, maturely. They’re acting like any other couple on the show, which Jessica Lowndes says is important to the storyline.

“There has been a response from people who have come up to me who have been affected by it,” the actress told The Los Angeles Times this week. “This is truly going on in high school and people are confused and I love that we’re showing somebody like my character, who is confused.”

As for the kiss Adrianna and Gia shared last episode, Lowndes says it was a bit awkward between her and Rumer Wills at first:

“We got a laugh between takes. Yeah, the first one was like, OK [squeals], let’s not think about it. But, at the end of the day, you’re telling a story and you can’t get in your head over it. You got to just do the work and I think the scene comes out really great. I’m very proud of it.”

When we turn up to a central London hotel to meet 90210’s Jessica Lowndes, 21, we expect the girl who plays Beverly Hills most dramatic resident to be hyperactive and and ‘totally LA’. But Jessica is very down to earth- telling LOOK how excited she is to be in London and how she spent the previous day shopping on Portobello Road. It’s a million miles away from her character, Adrianna, who’s been through teen pregnancy, drug addiction and endless man dramas. We caught up with Jessica to find out if her own life is equally as exciting.

How are you enjoying being in London?
I did so much shopping yesterday, its ridiculous! I went to Portobello Road market and I haven’t even hit Oxford Street yet!

Your character Adrianna’s style is very glam this season- how would you describe your own look?
I like to mix designer and bargains. And I love wearing clothes that make me feel sexy and feminine. But also I like to take risks. I bought so many cute sundresses at Portobello and to add edge. I’ll wear them with a leather jacket

Do you have much in-put into your on-screen outfits?
I wear whatever they put me in! This year, we have a new person incharge of the show and she has such great vision. She sees my character as more 40s and 50s inspired so now I get incredible vintage clothes. But I have the worst habit, I photocopy the tags on the clothes in the costume department and then go and buy them!

So aside from a style makeover, what else is coming up for Adrianna?
In the next few episodes, she examines her sexuality. And she’s still heartbroken over Navid, so she’s trying to numb the pain of that and she’s formed a friendship with Gia. There’s also more music in this season. I’m a musician so it’s really cool that they’ve brought that into my character. Right now, I’m writing and recording in a studio and working on an album.

Were you nervous when you found out Adrianna had a gay storyline?
I was shocked- I had no idea about the kiss {with Gia}. It was nerve-wracking but Rumer is a friend of mine so we could laugh about it.

Adrianna has some scenes in a bikini this year- did you diet for them?
If I’m going to be wearing one for the show, I try to mentally prepare for it. I don’t like working out, but the fact that all of America will see you is motivation! The paps like to get that bad shot. But I don’t stress out about it.

So there’s no special diet?
I keep a healthy lifestyle, I drink lots of water and I had a yoga class this morning. I love yoga. But I do indulge- cupcakes are my weakness.

You’re dating actor Aaron Paul, but do you set up your other female cast mates on dates?
I love to cook so I get all my friends together on the same night and introduce them to other friends. I hang out with Michael Steger {Navid} and his wife {Brandy Tucker} a lot. He’s one of my best friends.

We’ve been hearing about Adrianna’s lesbian tryst on “90210” since Season 2 premiered. The character’s girl-on-girl story line finally debuted after the show’s recent hiatus. Watching Ade explore her sexuality has been an interesting ride for viewers, but we’re not the ones portraying the gay relationship on television.

“Yeah, it’s definitely nerve-racking,” acknowledges Jessica Lowndes, who plays Ade on the CW show. “I think it’s the same with everything my character has gone through. I have no personal experience with it, be it the drug addiction, the pregnancy and now the questioning her sexuality. But I think it’s definitely important.”

Lowndes’ first lesbian kiss was a brave step for the show, which hasn’t had a major gay story line yet. Although it was important to her, Lowndes says that kissing Rumer Willis, who plays Gia, didn’t necessarily come naturally.

There are still some Snoozeville stories, but I’ve latched onto a few, including Naomi’s fraudulent sexual harassment charge against the new teach, which you just know will escalate into ridiculous levels of ohnoshedidn’t! “That story gets pretty crazy,” says Jessica Lowndes (aka Adriana). “You will see how huge her little lie gets in the next few episodes.”

And there is still drama involved with that because Navid’s current girlfriend is the bassist in her new band.

It is definitely dramatic having an ex-boyfriend’s girl in the band. Yes, definitely. But, yeah, I think the music actually helps her get over Navid in a lot of ways.

Your music will be featured in some of the upcoming episodes, right?  I just read that your single “Tattoo” is supposed to be on the show soon.

Yes, and another one called “I Haven’t Been Drinking.” Right now with the Gloria Steinems Band it is going to be more jazzy, or kind of Amy Weinhouse, doo-wappy. But later on it’s more pop-rock and that’s what I’ve been doing. During hiatus I’m actually recording an album. It’s extremely exciting. I have been singing my whole life, so I just feel really fortunate and blessed to be able do it on the show as well.

What is your take on the current storyline? Are you happy how the writers have crafted this new side of Adrianna?

I think it is all true to her character, I really do. I think she is somebody that leads a very dramatic life and likes people to be there for her and help her. Gia is that for her, you know. She doesn’t judge her and helps her through these very complicated situations, just encouraging her. They share a special bond. I think it is very true to her. She is somebody that is very passionate and she is not afraid about what other people think. Like last year, she announced to her whole school that she was pregnant and took full responsibility. She didn’t care. She was like, “This is who I am. This is what I’ve done.” I feel the same thing with this, it’s like if she feels something she has to fully experience it. Someone could tell her, “Hey don’t do that.” But she is somebody that needs to experience it herself to fully know for herself how she feels and what is right for her.
